Vivo is ramping up the excitement ahead of its big launch on June 25 in China, dropping high quality images and key feature highlights of its upcoming foldable the Vivo X Fold 5. And from what’s been revealed so far, this phone is trying hard to stand out in a crowded foldables market.
Let’s start with the headline grabber: battery size. Vivo’s poster confirms the X Fold 5 will carry a massive 6,000mAh battery the largest ever put into a foldable device. But it’s not just about capacity. Vivo is using a new-generation Blue Ocean battery with advanced silicon-carbon anode tech, pushing efficiency and cold weather performance. According to the company, this thing can even keep going at -30°C, thanks to its second-gen semi solid state chemistry.
And it’s not just power-packed it’s incredibly light, too. Huang Tao, Vivo’s President of Product, says it will undercut the previous record-holder (also from Vivo) by shaving off 10 grams. That would bring it down to around 209 grams, which, for a foldable, is seriously impressive. It’s also remarkably slim: 4.3mm when open, 9.3mm folded. For context, that’s slimmer than most wallets.
Durability is another area where the X Fold 5 is trying to raise the bar. Vivo says it will be the first foldable to come with triple environmental protection: water resistance (IPX8 and IPX9), dust protection (IP5X), and reliable function even in freezing conditions. That’s a bold promise for a device category often accused of being too fragile.
Photography lovers should find something to smile about, too. The phone features a periscope-style telephoto lens, promising not just long range zoom but also macro capabilities and full-focus portrait options. It sounds ambitious whether it lives up to the hype remains to be seen.
But maybe the biggest curveball? The X Fold 5 will reportedly play nice with the Apple ecosystem. Vivo claims it’s the first Android phone that can connect directly with Apple devices like the Watch, AirPods, iPhone calls and messages, and even iCloud. There’s also support for cross-platform file sharing and workflows with Mac. If that actually works as smoothly as it sounds, it could be a game-changer for people living in both ecosystems.
Overall, Vivo seems to be making a strong play for not just innovation, but practical usability. The X Fold 5 could be one to watch literally and figuratively.
