Redmi is gearing up to shake up the performance smartphone and tablet market in China with two new flagship devices on the horizon: the Redmi K80 Ultra and the K Pad. While no official date has been pinned down, the brand is expected to unveil both products later this month and the specs already have fans paying close attention.
Let’s start with the Redmi K80 Ultra. Positioned to compete directly with the likes of the iQOO Neo 10 Pro+ and the OnePlus Ace 5 Ultra, this device is shaping up to be a serious powerhouse. At its core is the MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ chip, paired with a robust 7,400mAh battery and blazing-fast 120W charging. That’s a big battery and with that kind of charging speed, users probably won’t be left waiting long to get back to full power.
Redmi’s marketing lead in China, Wang Teng Thomas, didn’t hold back in hyping the phone. He called it the most “luxurious performer” in its price bracket roughly 3,000 Yuan, or about $420. He’s also promised noticeable improvements in several areas: display quality, audio, haptics, and overall design. One small but interesting detail? The fingerprint scanner is said to work even with greasy fingers an everyday frustration finally getting some attention. That points to an ultrasonic sensor, which is a nice touch.
Then there’s the K Pad, which marks Redmi’s first real stab at a flagship tablet. It’s being billed as a direct competitor to gaming-focused devices like the Lenovo Legion Y700 (Gen 4) and Red Magic’s Gaming Tablet 3 Pro not to mention Apple’s iPad Mini. The K Pad features an 8.8-inch 3K LCD panel with a 165Hz refresh rate and a 16:10 aspect ratio. Under the hood, it’s powered by the same Dimensity 9400+ chip, making it the brand’s most capable tablet yet. It also supports 67W fast charging and bypass charging useful for longer gaming sessions.
Whether or not Xiaomi’s upcoming Mix Flip 2 will join the stage alongside these two new devices is still up in the air. Either way, Redmi seems ready to throw down the gauntlet in the mid-range performance segment. We’ll find out soon if it delivers.
